The route of the Archaeological Promenade extends over the 18th century fortifications. In 1932 it was converted into the current promenade and opened to the public as a romantic garden space. The Roman wall is the most ancient preserved monument in Tarraco. The wall had a defensive function and defined the sacred boundaries of the city. From its original route of more than 4,500 meters, only 1,100 meters remain.
